When software applications are developed you tend to concentrate on the business aspects of the application. Does the application meet the requirement specification and does it work flawlessly.  These combined can easily lead to the conclusion that the application is complete.

Here, we ignore, however, that most software applications tend to have a relatively long lifetime. The probability that users want changes / additions in functionality is increasingly seen over time. Therefore, one should always make demands on software developers that there opretholdse a quality that ensures a future or ongoing maintenance.

This quality assurance should ideally be made at the outset of a project and continuously assured. The quality should be ensured internally using reviews as a application on the technical level are discussed.
